A Mechanical Helper is responsible for many duties, including:

  • Maintaining all tools in a clean and serviceable manner ensuring that the tools are properly cleaned and stored at the end of the day
  • Willingly accepting training and direction from Tile Setter on tile installation technique and craft
  • Preparing for the job to include cleaning, mixing, staging of materials and other duties as needed
  • Assisting Tile Setter in taking measurements, making tile cuts and smearing thinset as needed
  • Ensuring that the work area in clean and clear of debris at the end of each work day

Helpers who exhibit technical proficiency in their roles, and who have shown technical abilities may be promoted into a Tile Setter position.

Grouters have a unique role at BTS.  Our Grouters are expected to:

  • Complete a pre-determined production target for each day, based on the types of materials being used.
  • Understand how to work with epoxy products.

Tile Setters are the heart of Burditt Tile and Stone.  As a Tile Setter, your duties include:

  • Inspecting area for installation to include the proper alignment of surfaces to be tiled prior to starting the installation of tile
  • Checking the condition and on hand quantities of tile and consumables prior to beginning work each day
  • Directing the activities of the helpers to ensure a continuous flow of work without interruption
  • Assisting in preparing the job to include cleaning, mixing, staging of materials and other duties as needed
  • Repairing any broken or damaged tiles prior to leaving a job site
  • Checking the condition of work performed each day to ensure proper spacing and placement of tile
  • Ensuring that the finished job is complete and meets the project specifications before departing the job site
  • Completing the Daily Report completely each day prior to leaving the work site reporting any anticipated problems or material shortages to the office

Tile Setters who exhibit technical proficiency in their roles, and who have shown leadership potential may be promoted into a Foreman position.

Our Foremen are the leaders of our operations teams: they oversee multiple job and crews.  With few exceptions, our Foremen are promoted from within.  A successful Foreman will have both advanced technical knowledge of the tile and stone industry and strong interpersonal and people-management skills.  Their responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the promotion of a positive image of the company by exercising sound and ethical business practices as related to its employees, customers, vendors and the general public. This includes ensuring that quality is of the highest possible level
  • Ensuring that personnel that are assigned to projects make the best use of skills and stay within the estimated budget
  • Contributing to production, actively participating in tile installation when possible. Makes the best use of time during working hours. Consistently showing the ability to recognize and deal with priorities
  • Reporting the necessary project status information to the General Field Superintendent weekly, including taking stock of materials on hand and ordering material for look ahead work
  • Ensuring that each project has all of the required tools and equipment necessary to complete the project on schedule and within budget
  • Interacting with the customer representative (usually General Contractor Superintendent) weekly, in order to determine project satisfaction and ensure that the projects are on time
  • Cooperating with the administrative staff to complete and return necessary paperwork on time
  • Demonstrating good judgment and tact in solving problems and difficult situations

A BTS Superintendent is responsible for overseeing multiple projects on multiple clients at once.  This position is only filled internally by promoting our foremen.  Our Superintendents’ responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the promotion of a positive image of the company by exercising sound and ethical business practices as related to its employees, customers, vendors and the general public. This includes ensuring that quality is of the highest possible level
  • Ensuring that personnel that are assigned to projects make the best use of skills and stay within the estimated budget
  • Reporting the necessary project status information to the Construction Administrative Manager each Friday
  • Ensuring that each project has all of the required tools and equipment necessary to complete the project on schedule and within budget and that the tools and equipment are properly maintained with operator maintenance performed as required
  • Interacting with the customer representative (usually General Contractor Superintendent) weekly, in order to determine project satisfaction and ensure that the projects are on time
  • Ensuring that all personnel are aware of and enforce the quality standards of Burditt Tile & Stone, Inc
  • Ensuring a clear understanding of the performance objectives and makes unannounced visits weekly to every assigned project to monitor the attainment of those performance objectives
  • Providing the field supervision necessary to ensure compliance with all company policies and monitor the correct use of time records and daily reports ensuring that personnel are productive during paid hours

A BTS Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all the projects on multiple clients at once.  This position is only filled internally by promoting our superintendents.  Our Project Manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the promotion of a positive image of the company by exercising sound and ethical business practices as related to its employees, customers, vendors and the general public. This includes ensuring that quality is of the highest possible level.
  • Ensuring that personnel are assigned to projects in order to make the best use of skills, developing personnel and staying within the estimated budget
  • Reporting the necessary project status information to the Construction Administrative Manager each Friday
  • Ensuring that all tools, equipment and company owned property are properly maintained with operator maintenance performed as required
  • Maintaining the personnel schedule in order to comply with contract requirements and complete projects on time
  • Ensuring that all personnel are aware of and enforce the quality standards of Burditt Tile & Stone, Inc
  • Recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training the management personnel as required and monitor the activities of field operations personnel. Establishing performance objectives and conducting an evaluation of their performance
